Palisade Pot

January 22, 2018

Recently, our next door neighbor, Palisade has agreed to begin accepting license applications for the cultivation, manufacture and testing of retail marijuana products. The window for applicants is open from February 1st to February 12th  and will provide an opportunity for  marijuana industries to expand on the Western Slope. However, town residents have mixed opinions, the town board will ultimately decide whether the town will introduce new marijuana facilities. The main concern shared by many is the change in the town’s image this will bring.

Many residents are optimistic for the possible introduction of a new industry which will bring in mass revenue and change. Some even say that the pot industry will go hand in hand with the famous wineries and festivals. Others however, are worried about the bad image pot will attract to Palisade transforming wine country into weed country.

Community input on the new endeavour will be collected through a questionnaire, and any future decisions whether palisade will dive into the new  industry will ultimately be decided by the town’s board.

This new issue arose only last February as the board agreed to allow three recreational dispensaries within city limits. At the time, only one medical marijuana dispensary was operating, and with the new decisions of last year and this year will lead to a growth in these numbers.
