The Shots Heard Round the World

October 13, 2017

On October 1st a tragedy took place in Las Vegas Nevada, causing 59 to lose their lives and leaving over 500 injured.

Stephen Paddock is the one known for being the gunman in the mass shooting at the Route 91 Music Festival. This individual had a total of 47 guns altered to be automatic guns with thousands of ammo. (CNNPaddock’s body is under medical examination to find his mental state, only finding severe anxiety at this time.

Our hearts go out to all the victims and their families as they recover from such chaos. Dozens of families have confirmed the victims while more are still yet to be confirmed. With this being the worst mass shooting in modern us history,  we keep our heads held high as we recover as a state from this tragic event.

In our small town of Fruita, hearing this news wasn’t a big shock to us knowing of other tragedies that have happened in the past. “I personally don’t know whether to be shocked or upset, this happened so quick and these days it feels like it’s happening all over the place” says Holli Acree. As other tragedies are taking place around the US we should be prepared as if something were to happen like that in a small town. Whether it’s knowing how to handle the situation or help others.

“I know hotels and other places are definitely going to increase security making it harder for even the smallest things that could be illegal to get through, but i think it’s about time they do.” says Caleb Mcgowan.

As hotels and airports and other places are increasing security, this should be a great change to have been made creating safer environments and preventing more tragedies.
