Steelers fans nationwide are at odds over two of their beloved players: Star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and ex-MVP wide receiver Antonio Brown. Roethlisberger has taken the Steelers to the Super Bowl six times and has won every single time, while Brown has shattered the record books with play after play, simply destroying fans’ expectations in every game. However, Brown made the decision to split from the team and has been signed to the Oakland Raiders for a $50 million contract in early March, according to nbcsports.com.
Part of his decision was due to some earlier words with Roethlisberger in the Week 12 season. “I pull the ball back and throw the ball to Antonio, who is supposed to be running a real flat, down-the-line kind of route,” Roethlisberger said in his weekly radio show. “[The cornerback] did undercut AB … that’s where I talked to AB, like ‘AB you have to come flat. You can’t drift in the end zone or those undercuts happen.’ ”
Afterwards, Roethlisberger did apologize, saying that he regretted his words and how it caused the current turmoil between the two of them. However, Spanish teacher, Ms. Teryn Gott here at Fruita Monument, thinks otherwise, “[Roethlisberger] has an air of arrogance and is unkind and is disingenuous as well. I saw him on ESPN once and I did not like him.”
Her insight on this particular topic may ring true, as Roethlisberger has called out other players before, including wide receiver James Washington and JJ Smith-Shuster.
Yet, other students, including junior Cory Walcher, side with Roethlisberger on this argument, “Brown was always a little snotty, and Roethlisberger had every right, considering he is the veteran quarterback of the team, to call out Brown for his bad play. I side with Roethlisberger and I will side with him every time.” Brown’s “snottiness” is evident in his recent, but deleted, tweet that said “never friends just had to get my ends… shut up already.”
Because of Roethliberger’s words, the Steeler nation has unfortunately lost the number 66 draft pick in round 3. However, the Pittsburgh Steelers are a powerful team and will continue to come back and win the upcoming Super Bowl!
