During these times filled with closures and cancellations. You can’t stop but think how this may hurt people whose businesses were closed down and the people who lost their jobs. Celebrities and athletes all around the world have come together to support and help the people and organizations affected by these strange times. The first example is Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban made a commitment to pay all arena workers inside American Airlines Center. Multiple other teams and individual players have done the same including Joel Embiid and Blake Griffin. Along with teams such as the Atlanta Braves, Boston Celtics, and Denver Nuggets to name a few.
But it’s not only athletes who are contributing; well known celebrity Shawn Mendes and The Shawn Mendes Foundation donated $175,000 to The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) to provide the Toronto-based facility with emergency medical resources to combat coronavirus and efficient care to patients, families, staff and the overall community. There are also the likes of Ciara, Russell Wilson, and Brad Paisley to name a few.
When asked what he thinks about these people and billion dollar franchises doing these acts of kindness, FMHS junior Jace Hinton said, “I think it’s great because these people rely on this as their income to get essentials for their everyday life, and it’s a great influence for all the kids that look up to those people.”
This pandemic doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon, but with the help of these people and many others, it’s making it easier for some to survive in these strange times.
