FMHS Students’ Reactions to High Gas Prices

Alayna Jones, Reporter

With the instability of the world right now, gas prices are steadily rising. Within just one week, prices have raised over 50 cents a gallon! So what does this mean for FMHS students?

Sophomore Macie Allen states that “I’m having to fill up every week because I work and I drive to school. This is just too expensive. My parents say I should carpool to school.” Parents like Macie’s are encouraging their kids to carpool now because of the outrageous price of gas.

Some students have no option but to ride the bus, either because they live too far or they are being grandfathered into their preferred boundary. This can also cause problems for students who have after school sports or activities and are forced to ride the bus.

While there are many negative side effects of inflated gas prices, there will definitely be less air pollution in the valley if people have to considerably downsize their traveling due to the price of gas. This may also give students a better understanding of the importance of being deliberate and careful with their spending and gas usage. Many students don’t understand how impactful just riding a bike to school can be.

While this crisis is troubling, students will be forced to be resourceful and more conservative with their gas in the future.
