Fruita Monument Welcomes New Counselor Jennifer Penick
September 13, 2019
After many counselors retired or moved to other schools when the 2018-2019 year ended, Fruita Monument was on the lookout for qualified people to fill the positions. Jennifer Penick, who formerly worked at Colorado Mesa University and Mt. Garfield Middle School, was eager to apply.
She worked for Residence Life at CMU, handling crisis management, “It was very frustrating to me that students can make it all the way to college and they hadn’t been identified as needing resources or receiving resources that they needed before they became an adult …” She continued, “so I was very interested in working with younger [people], as in high school students.”
Penick had heard many good things about Fruita, including “the education it provides, as well as the counseling and admin team.” After hearing these, she became very motivated to apply and work at FMHS.
Outside of her new job, Mrs. Penick enjoys doing anything outside, such as camping, hiking, and biking. Fruita is very excited to have such an enthusiastic counselor working with the many students of the school.
