Wildcats Softball Sweeps Demons in Doubleheader

March 11, 2020

It was a hot afternoon on August 24th as the Fruita softball season opener kicked off against Durango. In the first few innings the nerves got the best of Durango’s pitcher who walked five batters. Fruita’s slow start held them to only score three runs in the first three innings, but it didn’t take long for the Wildcats to pull ahead. In the seventh inning, Fruita scored seven putting them up 10-0. Durango had no answer for Fruita’s pitcher Jamye Shihadi who threw a complete game shut-out only giving up three hits.

The next game Fruita came to play. Their bats woke up in a hurry and the Demons couldn’t stop the Fruita powerhouse. Fruita’s ten hits helped to blow out the Demons 28-0 scoring half their runs in the fourth inning. Fruita’s season is looking promising!

When asked about Fruita’s new coaching staff, sophmore pitcher Marisa Nehm said “They’re very motivational and they make me want to play the game. They hold us all to a high standard of play and the best part is they maintain the field very well!” Fruita’s next home game will be September 6th, at 7 p.m against Thunderridge.
