New Arrest in Mac Miller Overdose Case

The US Drug Administration announced on Wednesday that a 23-year-old California man named Cameron James Pettit was arrested for allegedly selling drugs laced with fentanyl to famous rapper Mac Miller just days before his death. 

CNN News stated that Pettit was a resident in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood. Miller is believed to have snorted the pills prior to his death. The pills given to him were oxycodone counterfeits that contained fentanyl. “Pettit allegedly sold Miller counterfeit oxycodone pills that contained the opioid fentanyl, a drug 50 times stronger than heroin,” Buzzfeed said. Others agreed to sell Miller, oxycodone, cocaine, and xanax approximately two days before his overdose, said authorities. 

According to CNN, “The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner determined in November 2018 that the 26-year-old rapper died from ‘mixed drug toxicity.’ The drugs in Miller’s system included fentanyl, cocaine, and ethanol.” 

Thom Mrozek, the director of media relations for the US Attorney’s Office said, “There are two more individuals who allegedly are responsible for supplying Mac Miller with narcotics.” He added, “they have not been charged at this time.” Although the other suspects have not been charged, if Pettit is charged with drug trafficking, he would face a maximum sentence of twenty years in federal prison.
