TikTok Concerns
March 11, 2020
By this point, we have probably all heard of the social media app that has taken the world by storm, TikTok. For those that might not know, TikTok is a social media app where users post short videos (no longer than a minute) that feature popular dances or short comedic skits, but recently, TikTok has raised some security concerns among users.
TikTok is owned by a Chinese company, and U.S. officials worry that the Chinese government is using the app to take American’s personal information. The Trump administration has launched a national investigation into TikTok and has temporarily banned any members of the U.S. military from having an account until the investigation is completed.
Recently, TikTok updated its user agreement that allowed the app to take possession of personal information that users have put on the app. The update concerned many users and caused some to delete the app, however, the app is still extremely popular and many users don’t care much about the security concerns.
The company that owns TikTok says that they just want an app that they’re users can enjoy and that they have not given any information to the Chinese government. The U.S. government warns users against using the app but it is still enjoyed by millions.
