IT Movie Review

“We all float down here, and you’ll float too.”  The newest Stephen King adaptation on King’s well known novel “IT” came out this weekend and scared out a mighty review. “IT”  starring Bill Skarsgård, Finn Wolfhard,  Sophia Lillis, Jaeden Lieberher, Jack Dylan Grazer and many more. “IT” is the story about a cursed town in Maine that where children are being taken one by one, by the hands of the evil clown Pennywise. Seven kids join together to form the loser’s club and stand together to defeat the evil clown while also facing their greatest fears.

Ever since I can remember I’ve always loved Stephen king’s books and his movie adaptations. King is behind of some of the greatest movie of all time. “Shawshank Redemption”, “Stand By Me”, “The Shining” and so many more. King’s novels changed my ways of thinking and my imaginations to an extreme. And when I heard that “IT” was coming out I was really scared about if this movie would be good or not. When I left the theater I came out smiling bigger than Pennywise ever did in the movie. I loved this film from start to finish, and that’s from a person who hates scary movies.

What truly makes “IT” a great movie is  the story and the writing. One thing that I hate today is seeing crappy horror movies with weak and stupid characters and a dumb plot. “IT” is a movie filled with amazing characters and a strong story that’ll keep your eyes on the screen for the whole time. That doesn’t mean that “IT” isn’t scary. I was gripping my chair the whole time because you think in every scene something is going to pop out and get you. The imagery and setting is so spooky that it keeps you on your heels the whole time.  Andrés Muschietti did a perfect job filming every scene with a hint of horror. No shot is out of place and has a meaning within the story. The shot’s of this film brought me back to remember why I love Stephen King so much.

Also the character’s in this movie are fantastic! Most time in movies, kid actors aren’t that good, and it feels weird in the movie. But for “IT” they were terrific .  Finn Wolfhard, Jaeden Lieberher,  Jack Dylan Grazer and of the other losers did such a good job portraying their character. These kid hold the whole movie for me. Because in the book, the characters holed the entire book. I was so happy with each of the kid actors especially Finn Wolfhard and Jaeden Lieberher. These two kids have a bright future ahead of them. You will connect with at least one of the losers in the movie.

But the movie doesn’t work without that clown. Bill Skarsgård’s portrayal as Pennywise was outstanding! Bill does not hold back and made his character his own. I haven’t been so creeped out from a horror character in a long time! I’m happy to say that I was so satisfied with this adaptation. But this is not a perfect movie.

No movie is ever perfect, not even the most classic films. Even though there’s a lot to love in “IT”  there’s are some flaw in this film too. One thing that I noticed is that this movie has weird tones within the film. Most of the film has the tone of horror and suspense and the underdog feelings with the kids. But other times I found myself laughing at really funny jokes, and the tone flipped from horror to comedy. I love that the movie is funny at times, but sometimes the jokes don’t blind with the movie all the time.

That is really the only flaw with “IT” and can’t wait to see “IT” again. I hope you get to see this movie. This is a movie that you and your friend will have a blast in and will enjoy watching. My final review for “IT” is 8.5 out of 10. Please go support this film and remember “You’ll float Too…..”
