The Impact of Music

Timber Schuman, Reporter

Music is all around us, some just have to listen for it closer. It’s in the clanking of bottles jostling down the sidewalk, the wooden thunk of a door closing, and the distant car horns echoing off the buildings. Music lets us manipulate sounds to portray emotions that are difficult to express through words. It’s funny how only a rhythm or melody can evoke such a reaction. So many spaces are filled by the human mind to develop a connection to the song, so many memories can cling to the pick of a raspy guitar string, or the bluesy wallop of a bass drum, or the soulful words either belched or whispered into the mic. This musical medicine reduces stress, helps us cope with different scenarios that come up in life, and allows our brains another avenue for processing information.
