Congress uniting across party lines is not a common thing to see nowadays. But with the entire country drowning in coronavirus concerns, everyone must work together to keep the country moving. The most recent case of politicians working with each other during this crisis has been passing an economic relief bill worth 2 trillion dollars.

This bill is landmark, as it is the biggest relief bill in the history of the United States. The bill is designed to give help to those whose jobs have been compromised due to the pandemic, and need a bit of extra money. 

This bill doesn’t give money to every American. It’s based on 2019 income per person and per household. If an adult makes less than $99,000 or a married couple makes less than $198,000, they qualify for some money, according to the New York Times. People whose wages are below that can receive up to the full amount, and amounts vary based on how many people are in a household.

This relief bill will give most qualifying adults $1,200, with an additional $500 for every child age 16 or under. This is a one-time payment. Most people should receive their payment by April 17th.

The relief bill also includes unemployment benefits. It now covers self-employed workers and part-time employees who have been laid off as a result of the coronavirus, according to the New York Times. Unemployment payment has now been adjusted, covering more than the standard 50%. This new payment varies by state, and no new information has been released for Colorodans yet.

The sharp downturn of the economy due to this pandemic is scary at first glance, but there are many employers, as well as the US government, that are determined to keep things running as smoothly as possible.
