On January 5th, 2021, popular artist The Weeknd, or Abel Tesfaye, released a new music video for his hit single “Save Your Tears.” An eccentric artist, he’s known for his R&B songs with dark themes as well as his creative music videos. But this video was a surprise to many fans, as his appearance changed drastically.

In March 2020, The Weeknd’s album “After Hours” released including the sensational tunes “Heartless” and “Blinding Lights.” The album cover showcased The Weeknd with a bloody smiling face and a sharp red suit. In November for his performance at the American Music Awards, the singer sported the red suit again, this time with bandages covering his face and swollen eyes, a post-plastic surgery look. Naturally, fans became concerned for his health, but his performance suggested he was in prime condition.

A few days ago, the bandages disappeared to reveal an insane transformation- a complete facial reconstruction with puffy lips and all. Fans were quick to make jokes saying The Weeknd “couldn’t feel his face” playing off of his other hit song “Can’t Feel My Face.” Rumors spread that the artist was imitating his model ex-girlfriend Bella Hadid, who is known for her high cheekbones. Another claimed he may be trying to follow in icon Michael Jackson’s footsteps with plastic surgery.

As far as we know, this look is temporary and was created with prosthetics. The Weeknd has not directly spoken out about his reasons behind the transformation yet. He is scheduled to perform at the 2021 Super Bowl February 7th, leaving fans guessing if he’ll be sporting another grotesque look.
