Many people engaged in fun activities for the New Year, especially with the snow that blew into town the night before. No one anticipated a snowball fight in a communal park to go south, but it did. On December 31st, at 11:50 pm, a 911 call was reported about a stabbing.

 A group of males were having a snowball fight in Grand Junction’s Rocket Park and had accidentally hit a car passing by. According to the men, the vehicle turned around and parked in an alleyway nearby. 

The vehicle was a male teenager who walked up to the group. A “verbal altercation,” according to Madelynn Fellet at KKCO 11 news, “led to a physical altercation, and one of the males involved was stabbed.” 

The victim was taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle and sustained many severe injuries. At the same time, the 17-year-old perpetrator was found and detained within the Division of Youth Services without issue. The male will be charged with assault first-degree, bodily injury, and tampering with physical evidence. 

The motive is unknown, but what is known is that people are unpredictable and that young people, especially children, should be careful when participating in potentially harmful activities or activities that could inflict anger within themselves or someone around them.
