2022 Predictions

Many consider New Year’s predictions ridiculous; no one could ever have guessed what was to come in these past few years. Others look to predictions anyways, seeing that some of them have been correct before but acknowledging that events will be missed. Whatever the case, there are many thoughts regarding the fate of 2022.

The upcoming year’s fashion has many people predicting. Users on Pinterest, Tiktok, and Instagram have taken to this in particular, making it a trend to predict clothing items that will become on-brand. TikToks list off many items that may emerge this year  including opera gloves, and gloves in general, oversize sunglasses, low-rise clothing, even more vintage, and suits made casual. Pinterest takes a more broadly-worded approach, with users predicting things such as pearls, checkered patterns, and goth clothing. All platforms look forward to funky patterns and clothing in general.

On a different end of the spectrum, NiemanLab asked ten of the most qualified journalists in the industry for their predictions of journalism in the year to come. Many of the resulting thoughts included the idea that many old things will become new with technology. There was also much talk of broadening and diversifying, in order to fit the changing world. It was also believed by interviewees that journalists will have a lot of voice this year in addressing ever growing issues and tensions.

In other media, the New York Post has predicted events in the upcoming Golden Globes, with one guess being that Will Smith will win in the spot of Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama, due to his role in “King Richard”. USA Today has made predictions for this year’s MLB occurrences, stating that “normalcy will return to baseball”. The New York Times has a plethora of random possible 2022 quirks including Mudslides, an alcoholic milkshake, big bags, and moon gazing, in regard to all of the space action that is to come.

All in all, the media appears to be looking towards 2022 as a time of excitement in response to the growth and the acceptance of things that once may have been considered wild. One cannot know for certain what this year has in store for the world, but there is only one way to find out.
