Premiering Saturday August 19th of 2023, in downtown Grand Junction at the Avalon Theater, a unique movie will be shown. It’s not a typical film that gets shown at the theater which is what makes this movie so unique is everything about it relates to Grand Junction.
Faraway Canyon is about an old uranium mill in Grand Junction that has evil creatures waking up in the mill. The characters are veterans and now have to save the planet. This film is an adaptation of the comic strip Faraway Canyon also written by local artists. All of the cinematography was shot here In Grand Junction which adds a lot of local charm to the film Even better, the Director Hank Braxton grew up in Grand junction and served in the US military. Now he makes movies on the Western slope.
The film has some familiar sights that residents may recognize, the old Loma school, Elks lodge, and the old greyhound bus station. Also Colorado Mesa University students who are currently studying film, had the opportunity to assist in the making of this film. Faraway Canyon will also feature Hollywood stars James Remar and Michael Dorn.
All of the ticket proceeds to the Avalon theater from the movie, Faraway Canyon is the start of many local movies that support uprising directors which will put Grand Junction on the map.
