Every month, one teacher gets to nominate a student for Student of the Month whom they view as a student with exemplary value. Most of the time, it comes as a surprise to that student, as they aren’t aware of the nomination until getting randomly called into the office. This was the case for Megan Davis.
A nice teacher told her before the email, but she still went into the office doubting herself. “When I was called into the office, I was seriously wondering how anyone thought I stood out as a ‘good’ student, especially so early in the semester,” said Davis. “It was pretty cool to know I was doing well.”
There is no doubt that Megan Davis is a good student. She is the daughter of Mr. Davis and holds many accolades besides this new award, including starring as Belle’s understudy in the upcoming musical and being the show choir captain.
Upon getting there, the lunch “felt very homey and warm, but also a little serious.” They played “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” before calling up students. A lot of students prepared speeches, and once again Davis felt unprepared. “It didn’t make me feel any better that they all had plans for their futures, incredible deeds to their names, and more impressive extracurriculars than me,” Davis admitted.
Davis is not alone in that fear by any means. Most don’t know what they want to do after high school, and instead, just go day by day praying they might appear as though they do. Senior year can be scary in that way, but not knowing can be a blessing in disguise. Davis soon decided, “Not knowing what to do in my future was perfectly okay.”
As is the case with everyone. The fear of the future may be ever-present, looming overhead like a big ominous gray cloud. However, the future is still a long way off. Not knowing may be the best feeling in the world, because every choice is available when the time is ready. Find comfort in not knowing just as Davis did.
As Davis stated, “This award gave me a chance to comfort myself. Yay!!”
