Imagine you’re seven years old. You need three different brain surgeries but you can’t afford them. What would you do? Liza Scott is a seven-year-old girl going through this exact, heartbreaking situation. 

Liza “has three malformations on her brain.” For her to receive the life-saving surgeries that she needs, her family needs money. According to complex.com, “Even with health insurance and after purchasing additional insurance, the cost of the medical and travel expenses [were] already nearing $10,000 out-of-pocket.” The family was struggling as Liza’s mother was the only financial supporter of the family, so Liza had to take matters into her own hands. Liza set up a lemonade stand in her mother’s bakery to raise money for her surgeries. The family also set up a mighty cause page that people could donate to. 

The anger people felt about “Liza’s situation and the state of healthcare in the U.S. drove many to promote the family’s page.” They ended up making $186,493 in total, which was plenty more than they needed for the surgeries. 

The things people can do when they come together to help someone in need are amazing. People should help others more often because the impact can mean a lot, especially to someone who needs the help.
