Everybody who goes through high school has the universal stressful experience of the SAT or the ACT, depending on which test is taken. These tests are necessary to get into college and to get good scholarships, which makes them even scarier. Everyone studies hard for them and stresses as they frantically bubble in letters on a scantron, watching as they lose precious minutes to answer the questions. Their only weapon in defeating the test, is a number two pencil. Only now, students will have a computer.
That’s right, starting this year the ACT and SAT are going online. With the technological advancements in today’s world, it is not surprising that these tests would also be adapted to technology. According to the College Board website, the SAT going digital has many benefits. “The SAT Suite of Assessments is adapting to meet the changing needs of students and educators alike.” The idea is that it is easier to administer and more fair for students. The SAT will no longer be offered on paper. The ACT digital version is a little different.
The idea of online testing for the ACT is that students can choose what will work best for them during this stressful time. According to the ACT online test information page, “Starting February 2024, ACT will offer an online testing option at select locations nationwide. Embrace the flexibility of choosing a testing format that aligns with your comfort zone and showcases your true potential.”
Hopefully, these online adjustments will help students reach their full potential, just like the ACT website states. So calm down, and instead of bubbling in your answers, click on them, and then probably hit submit. What can I say, we’re in the digital days.
