Fruita Monument High School has more of a history than you might think. Fruita Monument High School was finished in 1905 with the name of Fruita Union High School. The School lasted all the up until 1934 when it was burned down. Classes were halted, and they had to figure out how to hold class. They then proceeded to use a local armory to teach in. After two years in 1936, the new school was finished, known under the same name. This building was used from 1936 to 1969. In 1969, they then built the third and final school lasting up until now.
In 2017, there was a referendum that resulted in a new project for the school to make it safer to use by teachers and students costing a whopping $12 million. This included more classrooms and a commons for students to hang out during downtime to do homework, and talk with others, and allowed an area for tutoring.
Even though we are\ in a small town, we do have a great athletic program with multiple sports going far into the playoffs or even winning state championships. The school is classified as a 5A school. Within the school’s time, they have won state championships which include boys basketball in 1982 and 1983 with girls basketball in 1982, 1983, and 1989. Others include volleyball and golf in 1983, wrestling in 1964, 1982 and 1983 baseball in 1970 and 1993, softball in 1989, and spirit in 2000. Having these titles is a great accomplishment for the school while also showing the commitment and dedication the students have to be phenomenal athletes as well as high-achieving students.
