Fruita 8/9 and now the high school, I’ve realized the ride to school is not as boring as I thought. Though the buildings may not be the most interesting, I’ve learned to find the beauty around the school, specifically the houses around it.
Every day I’ve taken the same route to school, to see the highlights of my day. These birds have been my encouragement to wake up and go to school. Every morning, I look out the window of my car, and to my amazement, they’re there, and my morning feels complete.
These geese make me so unbelievably happy. I love keeping up traffic to ensure the geese safely cross the road. I’ve even given them their own titles: The honk honks.
The geese live just down the street from us. They live in the house behind the Dollar General. It’s also the house across the street from The Living Water Baptist Church.
Every morning and night, they walk across the street to the church. I don’t know what they do there, but they look like they’re enjoying themselves, so who am I to intrude? As much as I enjoy their presence and understand that they are residents of Fruita, I would be lying if I said they weren’t peaceful.
Geese aren’t exactly known to be loving and kind, and often it seems they’re known to be pure evil. Though I don’t believe they are evil, I’ve witnessed them attacking an innocent bystander. I’ve only seen the geese attack one person, everyone else they leave alone. My guess is this person is not innocent. The geese probably have their reasons. Once again, who am I to intrude? I am not a goose, so I may not understand the hurt this person may have caused the geese.
So, on the slight chance that this person is not innocent, I watch it happen. It’s none of my business. If the geese need to get their revenge, I completely understand.
Now, my point is not to persuade you to allow your peers to be bullied by geese, my point is you can always find beauty somewhere, even if you are stuck in school. Find something that encourages you to wake up in the morning, even if it is something as small as two geese that hang out at some random person’s house.
