Fruita Monument High School has rolled out a new cell phone policy that requires students to place their phones in a box called the “Phone Home” at the start of each class. The goal of this policy is to cut down on distractions and help students focus better on their schoolwork.
According to many teachers, the change is already making a difference, with more students paying attention during lessons, which was the primary aim of the new rule. However, the response from students has been mixed.
Some students are on board with the new policy, recognizing that it helps them concentrate without the temptation to check their phones constantly. They feel that having their phones out of reach has created a more focused classroom environment.
On the other hand, some students feel the policy is unnecessary and restrictive. Student Talon Coda,, voiced his frustration, saying, “The Phone Home is really stupid, and I’m not a fan of it.”
So some may not like it. However, some have more balanced views, and some even like the change..
There are more ideas on this than just negative, though. Another student, Finn Digheria, had a more balanced view, saying, “I’m not a fan, but it has helped out some kids to focus.” Digheria’s comment reflects the mixed feelings among the student body, with some acknowledging that the policy may have benefits even if they don’t personally enjoy it.
This policy is part of a broader trend in schools across the country, where administrators are looking for ways to manage technology use in the classroom to enhance learning. As cell phones have become a common distraction, many schools are trying similar approaches to minimize their impact during instructional time.
