After placing 52nd in the 100-meter men’s freestyle with a 51.12 second time, Olympic swimmer Harry Stacey will be joining the CMU college swim team.
Stacey medalled at the African Championship placing bronze in the 100m freestyle, during which he qualified for an Olympic spot on the Ghana team. He holds the Ghana National record for 100m freestyle and the 50m backstroke.
Stacey commented on his achievements earlier this year, “I finally managed to achieve my life-long dream and reach the pinnacle of my sport, which is an honor. I’m also grateful to all of the people who have helped me along the way to get to this position. I couldn’t have done it without them, so I am grateful that all the investment that they have put into me has come to fruition,” according to the CMU athletics page.
He chose CMU as his college for the “extremely decorated D2 program” as he states and the ‘good vibes’ he gets from the coaches Mickey Wender and Andy Parro.
He will be majoring in electrical engineering and computer science which is part of the CU-Boulder/CMU partnership program. Wender (the head coach) has commented on the recruit, saying, “He has had an amazing series of adventures which led him to Paris to compete this summer. We are incredibly excited to welcome him to CMU after the Olympics as he begins his next big adventure here at Colorado Mesa,” according to the CMU athletics page.
