As the Fall season finally approaches, so does one of Fruita’s more notable events: The Fruita Fall Festival. This is an amazing event that is filled with fun activities and builds a sense of community.
The Fruita Fall Festival will take place this year on the 27 and 28 of September. It’ll kick off on Saturday with a parade at 10 o’clock marching through the downtown area. Several of FMHS’s organizations will be in it as well, such as the Poms team and the drama club.
The Fruita Fall Fest website includes a map of the parade route to help you find the best viewing spots. The drama club’s vice president Makayla McWilliams says that she loves both the parade and festival in general, and she 100% recommends it to anyone thinking of going.
Just before this at 7:30, there will be a delicious Rotary Club-sponsored pancake breakfast in front of the Fruita Thrift Shop annex.
Just a half hour later at 8 in the morning, there will be a Mesa County Search and Rescue 5k race for those who would rather go on a run. Whether or not you’re a seasoned runner, this fundraising run will be a fun event. Winners will be announced at the Circle Park stage at noon.
Meanwhile, there will be a plethora of vendors selling everything from delicious food to handmade crafts.
Those who wish to display their culinary skills can enter the baking and canning contest. The Fruita Fall Fest website includes details such as the location, and what can be entered into the contest. Judging will begin at noon, with winners being announced at 3:30 on the main stage at Circle Park.
Of course, the annual outhouse race can’t be overlooked. On Friday the 27th, starting at 5:30, teams of five will be able to race their outhouses. They can be hand-made, or built by the event’s partner Duane, and then customized. The outhouses will feature team brackets with a grand finale between the top two teams, along with the top three teams winning cash prizes of up to 500 dollars.
To wrap up each night, there will be live music from the Circle Park and civic center stages. These will take place between 6:00 to closing on Friday, and 4:00 to closing on Saturday.
Fruita Fall Fest is an amazing event that builds a sense of community in Fruita. “I think it’s good for cultural experience and community in Fruita,” said poms team member Maya Hall.
