Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul – What Does FMHS Think?
Recently, Mike Tyson, one of the greatest heavyweight boxing champions in history, had a boxing match against Youtuber-to-Professional boxer Jake Paul. This boxing fight led to tens of millions being paid to both fighters, and hundreds of millions of people spectating the event live. One was victorious over the other in a unanimous decision, and if you haven’t seen the fight results yet, you’d be shocked. But, how did this beef begin and what happened?
Beginning March 7th, 2024, Jake Paul made a post on Twitter about boasting his skill, stating that he was “The most vicious KO artist ever.” This post was made partly due to Mike Tyson mixing up the brother of Jake Paul, Logan Paul , and this angered Jake. “I idolized Mike Tyson until the first time I met him 4 years ago…he called me Logan. Going to make sure he knows who I am real close and personal.”
After Jake made the first move, Tyson quickly responded with a video showing how deadly his speed and power still was after all of these years. Yet, Jake wasn’t afraid and this led to both of them trash talking each other, with Jake even giving Tyson a bouquet of flowers. This would continue until April 27th, 2024 when Jake formally announced he would fight Tyson on July 20th, 2024. However, on May 31, Tyson had to postpone the fight because he suffered an ulcer flare up that he had suffered on a flight. It was postponed to November 15th, and the two boxers continued the trash talk, including continuous comments on how one is better than the other.
It wasn’t until November 14th, 2024, when both boxers had a face off in person. Jake was getting in Tyson’s personal space, which led to a viral clip of Tyson brutally slapping Jake on the face, leading both parties to be separated. Due to this clip and the fierceness that Tyson showed, many thought the old champion would win flawlessly against Jake. On November 15th, however, the majority of people’s expectations were not met.
In a unanimous decision between the referees, Jake won against Tyson with an 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73. Everybody was shocked to see how Tyson fell. Sophomore Joseph Molina says “I was really disappointed, but I can’t say I was surprised. I think we all wanted Jake to lose.”
Another student, Sophomore Derick Vigil says “I expected it because Mike Tyson is old, and Jake Paul is around 25 or something. Jake Paul has less skill, but Mike Tyson is old.” Yet, despite Tyson’s defeat, he still showed gratitude for having the ability to return to the ring for the first time in years. After this, what is left for Tyson and Jake Paul’s future? Tyson stated “It depends on the situation. I don’t think this is my last one, and I’ve still got some in me.” As for Jake Paul, he will continue his boxing career for years to come. Now, what do you think about this fight?
