
Fruita Monument High School Girls Swim and Dive ended the season with a total of 7 swim meets, in Montrose, Delta, Glenwood, and Grand Junction. With 14 girls, the team ranked 4th at Conference. Two relays qualified for a 5a state time and an individual 50 free qualified for state.
Molli Atwood qualified for the 5A State Championship in her 50 freestyle and helped the team qualify for the 200 MR (Medley Relay) and the 200 FR (Freestyle Relay). She is one of the five seniors we are going to miss dearly next year. She is a freestyle sprinter and anchors our relays. As swim team member Zayleigh Jenkins said, “Molli’s a beast, we love her.”
Natalie Bushnell swam backstroke in the 200 MR B relay and freestyle in the 200 FR B relay. She has a best time of 1:18.71 in the 100m backstroke. Bushnell says she’s going to miss being pushed during practice. Her team is going to miss her unconditional kindness and tough spirit.
Ava Pfaffendorf is a mid to long-distance swimmer with her main individual events being the 200M freestyle and the 500M freestyle. She anchors the 200 FR B relay. Ava is known for her polite sense of humor and positive attitude.
Kaelen Seely, who is on the state relay team, swims the 100m Butterfly with a best time of 1:07.21. She swims fly in the 200m Medley A relay and freestyle in the 200m Freestyle A relay. She is going to miss being exposed to the different people on the swim team. Kaelen is hilarious and brings a positive energy to the team.
Runa is beloved by the team for just being a chill guy and willing to talk to anyone. Runa Tweedy is an IM (Individual Medley) swimmer with a best time of 2:37.11 in the 200 IM, she swims breaststroke in the 200m Medley B relay and starts the 200m Freestyle B relay. The team is going to miss her as a key leader for the team next year.
Brynlee Kendall, Lindsey Moses, Kaelen Seely, and Molli Atwood are all on the State team and will be heading up to Thorton on the 6th and 7th of February at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center. They qualified for the 200 FR and the 200 MR along with Atwood qualifying in the 50m freestyle.
All in all, the Fruita Girls Swim & Dive team has had a great season. As Skyler Hirsch said “It’s over. We won.”
