One of the most fun and eventful weeks during the school year is Homecoming spirit week! And like many schools, Fruita has set days that go along with our theme for everyone to dress up as. Although it’s hard to calculate which did the best most spirit days, since it’s the same theme for every grade, determining which grade did the best during spirit week is easy to tell through one day, color wars.
On Thursday of spirit week, September 11th, our school did color wars for spirit week. Freshmen wore pink, sophomores wore white, juniors blue, and seniors black. Now being divided into colors, you can tell which grade has the most people dressed in their color. All the grades did pretty well when you looked at them during the assembly, because StuCo had given us things with our grades’ colors.
Since it was hard to tell who did the best from the junior section, I asked someone who had seen all the grades. Yearbook photographer, Abby Beebe. “Honestly, all the grades did well with their colors. But the best were seniors and sophomores. I think if I had to choose between the two, seniors did the best since they went all out for their last year. I’ve seen a lot of them participate all spirit week, not just for color wars. So I think for the entire week, I would give it to seniors.”
Although most seniors did most of the spirit days, I saw a lot of sophomores participate as well. Many sophomores did all of the activities and the spirit days. Both seniors and sophomores won their respective powderpuff games, and many participated in strobelight volleyball. While they both showed their school spirit, seniors still went above and beyond for their last year here. “We absolutely beat the sophomores and other classes becausewith it being our last year, we wanted to be the best and beat the other classes one last time.” Senior Paige Balzer, told me. “So yes, we absolutely did.”
Seniors were beat, though, as the teachers really did the best during spirit week. All the teachers and staff members I saw dressed up every single day, doing the most for every day. For neon day, some wore neon wigs, full jumper suits, or really any crazy neon stuff. Seniors were lucky they weren’t going against them!
Juniors and freshmen were a different story. Not as many of them didn’t participate, unfortunately, for various reasons. Some kept on forgetting until they had gotten to school, while others didn’t have anything for it, and couldn’t buy things to go with the spirit days. Whatever the cause may be, they didn’t appear to do as much as sophomores and seniors.
Overall, the seniors definitely did the best during spirit week, with sophomores in a close second place. So congratulations to the seniors for doing a great job during spirit week, and who knows what will happen next year!
