Neglect

By Noah Butzine

In every town and city country wide

Vegetation crawls out from the cracks

It spreads its tender chutes up towards the sun

In hopes that growth turns its sweet hand downward

A never ending partnership.

During our daily passing by

We may not notice subtle colors pop

Without these friends our cities remain dry

Devoid of hospitality and grace

Appreciate the slowly growing gift.

Our lack of care towards manufacturing

Has left the waterways full of despair

If life requires crystal clear

Then why have we neglected to care

For a simple part of everyone?

Although our daily lives pass by quickly

Time spent being aware of our impacts

Ensures every creeping tendril will make

The sweeping changes every city needs to see

A pause today can create a better tomorrow.
