Possible Arsonist in Grand Junction

Brooke Burkey, Editor

On the morning of Sunday, March 13th, a fire was reported at the Grand Junction Denver Mattress store. The Grand Junction Fire Department reported that the fire was started in a dumpster adjacent to the building, and then the building subsequently caught fire.

Along with the Denver Mattress fire, multiple reports came in to the Grand Junction Fire Department on Sunday about fires being set between North Avenue and Belford. As Denver Mattress is located on 9th and Belford, it’s speculated that these fires may all be related. The Grand Junction Police Department is investigating.

This would not be the Grand Valley’s only instance of arson in the past year. In June of 2021 a juvenile was arrested in connection with the Fruita Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints fire. That juvenile was found guilty in the case in March of 2022, though because they’re a minor the specific charges have not been released.
