Fruita’s New Scheduling System

High school can be hard for everyone. Some are going to be juniors, some seniors, and some are going off to college or wherever life takes them after high school. But for those still in high school, Fruita Monument High School has a new plan for next year.

In years past, students would check off the classes they wish to take, send in an application, and wait for a response. Then when school starts they are totally knocked off their feet when they find they get few of the classes they wanted. But this year there’s a new system. Students actually get to select the class they want and the time at which they take them.

This is actually the method they use in college. This new system is going to give students the chance to pick classes more to their liking and at better times. That way students can decide what classes they want to take in the morning and the afternoon.

With hopes that this will help the counselors job not be so hard. They are the brains behind the operation of high school. They make sure that students get the care they need with social problems, inspire them for the future and arrange schedules. With the old system kids would get mad and want to switch classes or drop classes, putting the extra stress on the counselors.

“ College students do this. It comes down to the fact that the other system didn’t give trust to the student. This way students can decide and give more high schoolers responsibility,” Stated FMHS counselor Jonthan Burke.

If this new system stays at FMHS, it will give students more trust, ownership and responsibility.
