The Wonka movie was one of the most anticipated movies of 2023 and early 2024. The interesting thing is that it’s not a movie remake but a prequel to the original 1971 “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” movie. It explores the early life of Wonka and how he came to be the Great Willie Wonka. But that’s not the only cool thing about the movie. It is also a musical film similar to the original movie, with new songs . 

It starts with Wonka’s dream of opening a chocolate factory in the center of town. But on his trip that day, he uses all of his money and doesn’t have a place to stay. He eventually meets a man who offers him a room.  fails to read  the fine print and soon enough he finds himself binded to a contract with immeasurable amounts of debt. He also meets new people who also failed to read the fine print and are working to pay off their debt. Through it all, they devise a plan to sell chocolate and escape the binding contract that keeps them working in the basement. Eventually they succeed after overcoming different obstacles and that leads to his great success

The movie stars Timothée Chalamet as Willie Wonka, Calah Lane, as Noodle (Wonka’s friend) Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa, and a number of other actors and actresses who all did an amazing job at portraying their characters. 

Paul King, a British writer and director, directed the movie. On google ratings It was given 4 stars and many critics and viewers have had nothing but good things to say.  Multiple viewers have noted the  amount of creativity and the thought that went into the characters and plot was amazing. For example, The new ideas revolved around Noodle, Wonkas newley found friend and the fact that she wasn’t an original character is a cool aspect of the new movie. 

But of course, with every movie, there is some backlash. Some people don’t appreciate that it was a musical and have given it a bad rap because of it. A lot of new movies recently have been musicals and for some it ruins the movie that otherwise they would love to see.

The movie is available in theatres, and available to rent on youtube, amazon movies, and apple tv. Overall, this movie is a must watch if you love musical fantasy films and have a passion for the Willy Wonka movies. It’s a great prequel that is entertaining for all ages.
