FMHS athletics started off the long awaited winter season with many successful sporting events including Fruita’s first home basketball game of the year. Winter sports for FMHS had many high ranked state and league finishes in the previous year, including the boys’ wrestling team who finished 4th place at the 5a State tournament in February.
Basketball kicked off their season with an at home win against Horizon High School on Thursday, where they pulled out a close win with only a one point difference and a final score of 44-45. They then finished off the tournament with wins against Lutheran High School (76-61) and Monarch High School (66-35). Girls basketball travelled to Pueblo to secure wins against Mesa Ridge (53-16) and Pueblo East High School (47-44) on their own turf. They had two 1st place finishers, Shyann Page at 130 lbs and Shylee Tuzon at 170 lbs who also secured many points to contribute to Phoenix’s high placing finish. “It was a great start to our upcoming successful season,” said Phoenix’s 115 lb wrestler Vivika Gilder from Grand Junction High School.
Girls Swim and dive started off their season in Glenwood Springs with a fourth place finish, and one in Grand Junction with another fourth place team finish at the 2025 SW Conference Relay Meet with a total score of 48. Their next event is the first of January in Grand Junction, at the 2025 Grand Junction High School Invite.
Student event attendance is very encouraged at FMHS to help support the athletes and teams who play a big role in the school as a whole. Student sections can also have a big part in encouraging and supporting players while also bringing the Fruita community together. Team schedules are available on the Fruita Monument High School website along with additional results and standings that are available on maxpreps.com.
