It’s not uncommon for someone to believe that human perception can manipulate reality. After all, you hear about it quite often with science theorizing that “photons and electrons act differently when observed by humans.” But is it really true or are we misunderstanding?
To figure this question out, one would have to do hours of research and information searching to figure out what is happening scientifically. Fortunately, I have researched already to answer this question: does human perception shape reality?
The idea that reality is shaped by human perception stems from a fundamental misunderstanding of how quantum superposition functions. Quantm superposition is when a sub atomic property like a electron or photon can exist simultaneously through space time in different locations as a wave. When a photon is made from bonding or another means by an electron, is exists as a wave so when scientists did experiments (most notably the double slit experiment), the objective of the experiment was to see how photons would behave in order to prove it was a wave. Not only did they prove it was a wave, but they found something interesting. They noticed that when the photons were observed, the photons acted as a particle rather than a wave, but when not observed, they acted as a wave causing the world renowned headline to be “human perception changes photons behavior.”
The reason this happens is because photons exist as a wave until it is observed, and you might ask how something could exist and also be a single particle. This is because of the principles of quantum superposition. Quantum superposition is the way photons electrons and other wavelike particles behave which is that they simultaneously exist in many places at once, but once that particle is observed, it is set in stone to be where you observed it. Now, it can no longer act as a wave.
If you have trouble understanding it, think of a fan when you see a spinning blade of a fan that is blurry, and it’s hard to tell where it is. But once you push your finger on it, it’s 100% right there. And that’s the same way photons and electrons function so it’s not that humans shape reality. It’s just the weird and confusing behavior of the photon and electron.
